Doors Open Days in progress...

I'm VERY busy working on Dumfries and Galloway Doors Open Days.  It was in real danger of disappearing here when GCAT (Glenkens Community Arts Trust - think The CatStrand and many other progressive initiatives) rode in to the rescue.

I'm working with a lovely and hugely capable small team, and in a few short weeks we've raised 34 sites to open on 24th and 25th September.  Phonelines have burned, emails zipped through the ether (occasionally getting lodged on hilltops and washed away).  We've also had the wonderful experience of people contacting us to offer their houses/farms/mills/life's work to Doors Open Days.  It's an event held in great affection, and I'm proud to be working on it.

This year's theme is 'The Key of the Door', reflecting 21 years of Doors Open Days in Scotland, and GCAT's aspiration to involve increased numbers of young people in the event.  So there are keys to all sorts of curious places - the key to Irvine Gaol abandoned in Newton Stewart - an outsize key in Torthorwald - a key to keyboards in a recording studio in Dumfries - and more.
